Our school endeavors to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from South Bend, Indiana, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment separate from local peer groups.
Our therapeutic boarding school is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character development and family restoration. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where struggling adolescents adopt constructive life attitudes, grow in their belief, experience a safe and nurturing environment, and overcome their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with inviting recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our gorgeous mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Every boy begins by building a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores build a strong work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the teen can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Boys at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also offers independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, making it possible for them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration occurs only with the total commitment of parents. We ask parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We support frequent contact between parents and teens using tools such as letter writing, which strengthens communication and strengthens relationships without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life.
