Our school endeavors to promote academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and mentoring them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Stockton, California, and often find it valuable to spend time in a new environment detached from local peer groups.
NHBR is a faith-based residential school focused on character maturity and family unity. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents develop better life attitudes, flourish in their belief, find a safe and nurturing environment, and conquer their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location has much to offer in backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each teen begins by building trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores contribute to a solid work ethic and many other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can tackle the conflicts that had held him or her back. We also use individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Residents at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced nature of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn as they do best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any productive education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration takes place only with the total commitment of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their child at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and their children using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based youth ranch that guides adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, therapy, hard work and plenty of play, we believe in values and character traits that will benefit your child into adulthood. Please think about looking outside of Stockton, California to see how our caring program can lead to restoration in your family.
