New Horizons Boys Ranch works hard to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by instilling discipline and coaching them to rebuild relationships. Adolescents come to New Horizons Boys Ranch from around the country, including from Thousand Oaks, California, and often find it constructive to experience a new environment away from local peer groups.
NHBR is a Christian residential program with a heart for character growth and family renewal. We provide treatment to 20 boys in a home-like environment where troubled adolescents adopt better life attitudes, flourish in their faith, find a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We offset hard work with engaging recreation including fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our picturesque mountainous location provides excellent opportunity for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each adolescent begins by establishing a relationship with an adult mentor. Engaging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other positive character qualities. Then, in context of a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can overcome the destructive choices that had caused the need for intervention. We also provide individual and group counseling to improve attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also uses independent study courses. All credits received transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced quality of the coursework suits our students well, allowing them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key role in any successful education, and we convey this in our classroom. In addition, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
Genuine family restoration happens only with the full cooperation of parents. We require parents to attend three family workshops per year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen at our facility. We assist with frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face contact.
NHBR is a faith-based program that leads adolescents to find their place in life. Through mentorship, counseling, hard work and plenty of play, we stand by values and character traits that will serve your child for the rest of his or her life. Please consider looking beyond Thousand Oaks, California to see how our caring program can bring restoration to your family.
