New Horizons Boys Ranch strives to develop academic, emotional, spiritual, and physical fitness by teaching discipline and helping them to rebuild relationships. Teens attend New Horizons Boys Ranch from across the country, including from Torrance, California, and often find it beneficial to grow in a new environment separate from local peer groups.
New Horizons Boys Ranch is a faith-based residential program with a mission for character maturity and family renewal. We provide services to 20 boys in a home-like atmosphere where struggling adolescents take on constructive life attitudes, grow in their faith, live in a safe and nurturing environment, and triumph over their challenges and problems. We balance hard work with engaging recreation such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting and swimming. Our beautiful mountainous location is a great place for backpacking, camping and hiking.
Each boy begins by establishing trust with an adult mentor. Challenging activities and daily chores foster a solid work ethic and countless other attractive character qualities. Then, framed by a relationship with a mentor, the adolescent can work through the conflicts that had caused the need for intervention. We also offer individual and group counseling to bring change in attitudes and behaviors.
Students at New Horizons Boys Ranch are provided a fully accredited school that also consists of independent study courses. All credits accumulated transfer easily to any other school. The self-paced attribute of the coursework suits our students well, permitting them to learn in the way they find best and catch up on any missed credits. We believe discipline plays a key part in any worthwhile education, and we communicate this in our classroom. Additionally, vocational training topics include automotive, construction, culinary, life skills, and ranching.
True family restoration happens only with the total commitment of parents. We request parents to attend three family workshops each year for coaching, family therapy and to visit their teen on our campus. We support frequent contact between parents and adolescents using tools such as letter writing, which reinforces communication and relationship building without the emotional charge of face-to-face interaction.
NHBR is a faith-based program that guides adolescents to find their place in life.
